As James says, “This baby represents everything about us and is truly blended.” (He was referring to the baby’s name, which we made out of the beginning letter of one of his children’s names and the final letter of one of my children’s names.)
Our newest member of the family is 6 weeks old and we are all very much in love with her. Yes, even though several old wives tales promised us a little girl, James and I would have both bet money on having a boy. So when the baby was born and we had not actually taken a look at her yet, the doctor said, “She is beautiful.” We both asked, “Who?”
Anyway, it was nice to not have found out the gender beforehand, as even our boys, who were very adamant that they wanted a brother or nothing, had a chance to fall in love with “the baby”, as opposed to having 20 weeks to “come to terms with getting another sister”. As our 13-year-old boy said recently, “Wow, she is even cute when she cries.” This teenage boy is so smitten with her; it’s pretty adorable. Of course, our girls immediately went into little-mommy-mode and even the 10-year-old boy is really helpful when it comes to taking care of the baby, although he has definitely found his niche by being the goofy kid that can calm the baby down easily when she cries or even make her smile. It’s only been 6 weeks, but everyone has settled into his or her own new role in the family.
